The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken visible steps through legislation, policy guidelines and plans of action for positioning and disseminating the gender strategy at all levels. Yet the strengthening of women inclusion at different tiers of the society remains incomplete. It is imperative to adopt a holistic and integrated approach to envision all the engines of the society (the public and private sector, media, academia, and the civil society) and align and synergize their energies and resources towards a shared destination to realize the true vision for the empowerment of women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Government of KP has agreed to support the digital empowerment of women in KP and fulfilling its International commitments under SDGs and National and Provincial policy frameworks. The State Citizen Dialogue component of GIZ Support to Local Governance (GIZ-LoGo) Programme aims to introduce IT based dialogue and feedback mechanism engaging women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A digital ICT project with the proper consultation of the target community and relevant stakeholders across multiple sectors is designed to introduce a project on ‘Digital Empowerment of Women’, to be implemented on a pilot basis. The digital platform will enhance the empowerment of women by helping them to have access to the tools, materials, and platforms to actively contribute to the development. It will engage women to discuss issues and government policies, plans and initiatives addressing those issues. Discussions and feedback on the platform will lead to the formulation of informed policy recommendations for pro-women and gender-sensitive legislation, policies, and plans. In the long run, the project interventions will create enabling and supportive environment for women empowerment and participation in all sphere of life contributing to the overall economic growth and sustainable development.

The project is designed and implemented through the Institute of Management Sciences in close coordination with the Women Wing of the Social Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, being the government counterpart and responsible department for women empowerment and development. As women empowerment is a cross-cutting area, joint efforts of multiple departments and interest groups including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Parliamentary Caucus is also taken on board to ensure ownership, participation, and sustainability of the intervention.
